A COLLABORATION MONUMENT
The idea of collaboration is problematic and often one side has to yield to the other. But when one side is more decisive in a project can it still be rightfully called collaboration? Some say that collaborations need leadership. Is this true? Or is it possible to collaborate in a completely non-authoritative, equal way and still manage to reach your goal?
‘A Collaboration Monument’ is an on-going project since 2011, first initiated by the artists Olof Nimar and Örn Alexander Ámundason, it is an attempt to achieve a perfectly equal collaboration, where every participant has a limited influence but no one is dispensable. It's a project where no side yields to another; rather it is an ‘Exquisite Corpse’ where each contributor has a clear role. They all receive some information, which they then have to transpose into a specific medium, in each step getting closer to creating a monumental work.
A Collaboration Monument is currently based at Gislaveds Konsthall where this iteration of the monument will be exhibited in the autumn of 2021.
In this version of A Collaboration Monument the first step is the making of a drawing: two stand-up comedians (Surrogates) based in Istanbul, Ibrahim El-Kazaz and Taha Ercoskun will give directions to a dog person (drafter) based in Göttingen, Dörte Ulka Engelkes about what to draw. Collectively they will create several drawings that will become the starting point and catalyst for a Collaboration Monument in Gislaveds Konsthall.
